Reminder to give comment on CBC DRAFT Budget

Reminder that the council’s draft budget proposals are on consultation.  A summary of the draft budget is available at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/budget and residents can also give their feedback online too.  The consultation is open until 3rd February.   CBC encourage residents to take part.

Paper copies are available in council libraries as well. If you would like further paper copies, please email communications@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk

Following two years of tough decisions and prudent financial management, the council was forecasting a positive financial position, allowing us to start putting money back into reserves and limit Council Tax increases to 3%, in line with inflation.

However, the government has changed how it funds councils, and this means a £17 million shortfall in the council’s funding. Many other local authorities have been hit just as hard.

We will continue to provide key services and will work to ensure public money is used effectively.

The draft budget proposes a combination of measures to balance the council’s finances, including:

  • Increase Council Tax by 5%
  • Further reductions in council costs, including potential staff reductions
  • A review of grants to voluntary and community organisations
  • Increases to some fees and charges
  • Changes to some services, such as reduced opening hours and maintenance schedules

The results will be considered by Central Bedfordshire councillors before deciding on the final budget at the end of February.
